Anurag Basu REACTS to Triptii Dimri losing role in Aashiqui 3 due to ‘innocent, pure’ face demand; says, “That’s not true”

Triptii Dimri was anticipated to reunite with Kartik Aaryan for the film Aashiqui 3. However, recent reports have suggested that she has been dropped from the project. According to sources, the filmmakers felt that the actress did not embody the innocence essential for the female lead in this romantic story. In response to these rumours, director Anurag Basu stated, “That’s not true. Triptii Dimri knows it too.”

Anurag Basu, the filmmaker behind ‘Aashiqui 3’, has come forward to dispel the rumours regarding Triptii Dimri’s exit from the film. In a conversation with Mid-Day, Basu clarified that the departure of Dimri from the project was not due to her lack of ‘innocence’ for the role. “That’s not true. Triptii knows it too,” he highlighted, addressing the speculation directly. This clarification came after sources indicated that the team behind ‘Aashiqui 3’ felt Dimri’s recent roles had made her “too exposed” for a film that demanded a “purity in demeanour” from its female lead.

Additionally, the source mentioned that since her film Animal, there has been a lack of buzz surrounding Triptii. And her solo box office performance has not proven profitable. As of now, Triptii Dimri has not issued an official statement regarding her status in Aashiqui 3. Following her departure, the new female lead for the film has yet to be announced.

Initially, Aashiqui 3 was set to be co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. However, in 2024, Bhushan Kumar revealed that T-Series would take over the production solo. Also mentions renaming the film Tu Aashiqui Hai due to creative differences with Bhatt.

T-Series’ statement

A statement from T-Series clarified their current involvement: “We are not presently involved in the development or production of Aashiqui 3. If and when Aashiqui 3 is initiated, T-Series and Vishesh Films/Mukesh Bhatt, being joint owners of the franchise, shall produce it jointly. We categorically deny any ongoing rumours suggesting that Aashiqui 3 is being produced under a different title by T-Series. Our proposed film directed by Anurag Basu is neither Aashiqui 3 nor part of the Aashiqui franchise. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support and enthusiasm of our fans.”
